Can I bring my electric wheelchair and mobility aids?
It is possible to bring your own mobility aid free of charge . Power wheelchairs and mobility aids fall under international rules for dangerous goods due to their batteries or accumulators, which apply transport restrictions.
They must meet strict safety conditions to be accepted by airlines.
Only wheelchairs with dry batteries are allowed, wheelchairs with lithium batteries are allowed depending on their strength.
For European and Mediterranean destinations (including Gambia, Cape Verde and Senegal), the folded wheelchair must not be higher than 86 cm, wider than 119 cm and longer than 119 cm and cannot be transported on its side.
Always seek prior approval from the airline and batteries must meet legal requirements for dangerous goods. Complete this form. Details about the batteries can be found in the manual. If you cannot find them, contact the (battery) supplier or manufacturer for an MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet).
