Tips for your stay in Dakar
Relax on the ‘small coast’
‘La Petit Côte’ is a coastal strip that stretches for 70 km along heavenly sandy beaches with swaying palm trees, dotted with lagoons, fishing villages and charming holiday resorts such as Somone, Saly and Mbour. The perfect place for a relaxing holiday in the sun. Modern hotels, restaurants and shops ensure that you will not be short of anything here. And if you like some action on the water, you’ve come to the right place: the ‘little coast’ has many water sports opportunities on offer. Book your flights to Senegal and make relaxing a priority!African natural beauty
When you think of Africa, you automatically think of safari. Senegal might not have the Big Five, but you can go spotting lots of other wildlife: giraffes, zebras, rhinos, monkeys, gazelles… About 15 km from Saly, you can find the Bandia reserve, a small nature reserve where you can look for animals with a guide. Near the border with Gambia, you can find the Fathala Wildlife Reserve. Aside from a ‘normal’ safari, you can also admire the many birds during a boat trip between the mangroves and baobabs. A little further inland in Senegal is the larger national park Niokolo Koba, where lions, leopards and elephants live. The pink lake Lac Retba is a special natural phenomenon, which owes its colour to the algae and the amount of salt in the water. If that doesn’t make for some nice photos!Dakar, so much more than the rally
We all know Dakar for the rally, but Senegal’s lively capital is also worth a visit without the roaring engines. Wherever you go, you’ll hear music. Stroll along the boulevard at night and enjoy the bustle. In the Musée Théodore Monod, you can discover African art and culture thanks to some 9,000 objects, ranging from traditional masks to works by contemporary artists. You can’t miss the African Renaissance Monument: at 52 metres, it's the highest statue in Africa. And you can taste, smell and experience the real Senegal on one of the many colourful markets. Off the coast of Dakar lies a special island with a darker history. For centuries, the island of Gorée was the place from where slaves were transported to America. Visiting the Maison des Esclaves, the last slave house, is a haunting experience.[]
