Tips for your stay in Tenerife
Tenerife: must-sees!
Have you booked your flight to Tenerife? Then you’d better start planning! Hikers and sun worshippers will be thrilled by Tenerife’s wonderful nature and beaches. But you can also soak up some culture in the towns of La Laguna and La Orotava. Discover all the other things a flight to Tenerife has to offer here:• Teide National Park. This national park comprises the 3,718-metre-tall Mount Teide, the island’s largest volcano and at the same time the highest mountain of Spain. Mount Teide is a sleeping volcano, the last eruption dating back to 1909. Book your flight to Tenerife now and see Mount Teide yourself.
• La Laguna was the capital of Tenerife until 1723 and is still the main cultural city. Its full name is San Cristóbal de La Laguna. One of the most important sights of the city is the cathedral, a beautiful mix of Gothic Revival and Neoclassical architecture. Boasting colourful and historical houses, the entire city centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.
• La Gomera is known for its beautiful green nature in a mountainous landscape. It is one of the smallest Canary Island, but therefore not less attractive. A path along forests and valleys leads you to Garajonay National Park, which covers no less than 10% of the island’s surface. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986, Garajonay mainly consists of evergreen laurel woodland and is laced with walking trails. Certainly worth a flight to Tenerife!
• Located in the northwest of Tenerife, Icod de los Vinos is a town known for its vineyards and the centuries-old Canary Islands dragon tree called ‘El Drago Milenario’. Other must-sees are the volcanic tunnels of Cueva del Viento – or Wind Cave – and a couple of museums.
• Perched at a height of about 700 metres and surrounded by beautiful greenery, Masca is a frequently visited village in the middle of the Teno Massif. Driving to the village along winding roads and steep mountain slopes is an adventure in itself. If you want to, you can descend the Masca Gorge (or Barranco de Masca) and end up on Masca beach.
• Built against a gigantic rock formation with impressive cliffs, Los Gigantes is a popular seaside resort. The rocks rise from the sea to a height of up to 800 metres. With a flight to Tenerife, you can come and marvel at the cliffs yourself. The marina is always buzzing with activity thanks to the numerous shops, restaurants and the lovely esplanade. Next to the harbour lies a small black sand beach where you can have a wonderful swim among colourful fish.
• Loro Parque (Spanish for “Parrot park”) in Puerto de la Cruz is a wonderful trip for the entire family and a must-visit for animal lovers. What started out as a paradise for parrots in 1972, has developed into a large zoo with an enormous variety of wildlife. The main tourist draws are the orca and dolphin shows, but Planet Penguin, Jungle Ara and the aquarium are must-sees as well!
• Constructed by the owners of Loro Parque, Siam Park is one of the biggest water parks in Europe. It features a Thai theme, including temples, exotic gardens and even a floating market. There are numerous slides, a river, beach and a wave pools with waves of 3.3 metres tall. Book your flight to Tenerife now and enjoy an exciting holiday!
• Located in the Orotava Valley, the town La Orotava features typical Canarian architecture. Its historical city centre boasts colonial houses and hand-made wooden balconies, lace and embroidery, and botanical gardens.
